Like it or Hate it, Social Media has Changed the Game

Ok, I’ll come clean.  I hate social media.  I see it as distracting, chaotic, shallow, and the last thing I need each day as I struggle through all the phone calls, instant messages, texts, walk-ins, emails, to-do’s is to check Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn… you know what I mean.

So it’s with great regret, for myself and others, that I point your attention to the Forbes article on OgilvyOne’s survey proving the enormous impact of social media on sales. (By the way, does anyone else besides me think that Ogilvy & Mather’s Web site is a poster child for elegance that defies usability?)

What [they] learned: Social media has had an enormous impact on buying behavior with 49% of sellers seeing social media as important to their success. In fact, among the most successful salespeople, over two-thirds believe social media is integral to their sales success.

So, my own “hate” of yet more distraction aside, I have to reconcile myself to the terrain at hand.  And that terrain is social.

However (here’s comes a shameless plug), we are rapidly developing ways of improving your footprint on the social media landscape without loading too much in your knapsack…(ok, the “forced march through rough terrain” analogy is just about worn out, methinks).

Is Your Website Repellent?

“Walk away, Chucky, just walk away.”  Ok, so the Rug Rats quote might be lost on you guys who either don’t have kids, or have kids that grew up before the Rug Rats were around.  But let’s face it, so many Web sites have Chucky’s self-targeted advice written all over them.

You know the Web sites I’m talking about.  The ones that have you grabbing frantically for the back button as soon as you arrive.

So, are you attracting…or repelling?  I found a great little post and checklist online titled 25 reasons why I’ll leave your web site.  Check it out.  Then check your own Web site out and see how you fare.

New Stuff for a New Year

As the title of this post suggests – in highly technical terms, mind you – Flexiss has some new things happening in preparation for the new year!  If you haven’t browsed around the Flexiss Website in a while, you probably have not seen some of our updates. Let’s take a minute to explore what’s new at Flexiss.

Flexiss adopts WordPress platformFirst off, we have recently updated the back-end of our own website (the underlying program, known as a Content Management System) to the highly sophisticated, very powerful WordPress platform.  Why is this important?  Well, that is a bit of a story.  For years now, Flexiss has been developing our own applications, such as FlexisShop E-Commerce, the Flexiss CMS (Content Management System), a Pay Roll system and others.  We feel we’ve done a good job providing high quality website products to our clients for a reasonable price.  However, as of lately, we have shifted our focus from writing high quality code to focus more on providing the best quality service of any web design firm in Western Colorado.  We found that by utilizing an amazing software package that was developed by over two hundred programmers from around the globe, and maintained by a community, we were better able to focus on providing the level of service our clients deserve while providing a product of higher caliber than our small team of developers can keep up with.  So, WordPress marks a shift for our business that could mean a lot to your business.
